I have been missing the breakfast/brunch café culture of Sydney in recent weeks. For those that have visited Australia, you would have noticed people on the weekend and their slow mornings spent sitting in the sun with friends, eating delicious avocado and smoked salmon on toast, while casually sipping their green juice…YUM! I did some digging to find something to satisfy my taste buds and found a café or two (with some help from my niece who lives in Manila) that would hopefully do the trick.
First up was Wildflour Café + Bakery. We decided to walk from our hotel in Makati to the branch located at Salcedo Village in Makati City. The streets were empty. It was so bizarre! Then we realised that the Pope was holding mass at around the same time. Bad timing to be in Manila we later realized when we attempted to go home. Anyway, I digress!
After walking in the rain for about 30mins due to Google maps failing us, we finally found Wildflour, tucked away at the end of L.P Leviste street next to the Picasso Hotel. I was instantly transported to Australia (the Australian accents of the diners also helped). The menu was familiar (avocado! smoked salmon! tomatoes!) and so were the drinks (chai lattes, green juice, carrot juice). This was all topped off by the amazing looking baked goods inside, freshly baked on the premises. After three months in the Philippines, I didn’t realized how much I had adapted to seeing people eat rice for breakfast, this was almost culture shock!
After Wildflour, we met up with my niece and headed to Bonifacio Global City to visit the wonderful, The Wholesome Table. In recent years I have tried to live a more conscious life by trying to eat a plant based diet and being informed of what I am putting on and in my body, so the Wholesome table is right up my alley. Basically if I lived in Manila I’m sure you would find me eating here at least every other day (being a vegetarian in the Philippines is HARD!).
The menu had so many different options for the meat eater to the vegan, and the industrial chic interior added to the rustic and natural flavor of the food. We tried the ‘Powerbowls’ which we all enjoyed and had a smoothie to wash it all down. An extra treat was sitting next to the lovely Kim Jones and Jericho Rosales, even if my husband and I had no idea who they were – my niece had to fill us in 🙂
